Do I Need a Visa to Work in Slovenia?
You don’t need to apply for a work visa and permit if one of the following applies:
- You are an EU/EEA citizen.
- Your family member is a Slovenian citizen.
- You are from a non-EU/EEA country but own a permanent residence permit.
- You are from a non-EU/EEA country, but you have long-term residency from another EU country and have lived in Slovenia for at least one year.
- You are from a non-EU/EEA country, but you are a third successive generation national of Slovenian origin.
Third-country nationals from countries outside of the EEA/EU must apply for a work visa if they want to move to Slovenia for gainful employment.
Types of Slovenia Work Permits
The types of Slovenia work permits you can apply for are:

You can apply for this work visa if you have found work in Slovenia and have a valid work contract with a Slovenian employer. You can apply for this type of visa at a foreign representative office of Slovenia in your country, or your employer can apply for you on your behalf from within the country. |

You qualify for a self-employed visa if you own a company and want to work in Slovenia. Otherwise, you must first register at the Slovenian Business Register as a person doing individual independent work. |

The EU Blue Card is the most sought-after work permit within EU countries. To qualify for this visa, you must be considered a “highly qualified individual” in certain fields. This visa is usually issued with a two-year validity period, and you can renew it as required. Please note that during the initial two years with a Slovenia EU Blue Card, you must submit a request to change employers. After this period, this is no longer required.
Slovenia Work Visa Requirements
The required documents for a Slovenia work visa are:
- Your valid passport after your departure date from the Republic of Slovenia.
- 4 copies and your biometric data.
- Employment contract and/or invitation letter from your employer.

The price for your initial long-stay visa is around €77, after which you have to pay for a temporary residence permit based on employment which costs €50 if you apply within Slovenia and €102 if you apply from outside of the country. You also have to pay for a residence card after you enter the country and register your new residence, which costs €15,47. Duration of a Slovenia Work Visa
